BENEDICTINE MONKS - CHRISTMAS CHANTS
This Milan release features 25 tracks occuring at Christmas, a time where Gregorian chant becomes jubliant, albeit with a restrained happiness, quite different from what we see from shepherds and the music of the classicists. The Church’s chant becomes powerful and terribly dense.

GREGORIAN CHANT: DOMINICAN LITURGY
"Dominic wished that the choral office would be sung lightly and joyfully, with simplicity and sobriety, as befits an Order of preachers. It is sung today in all of the various languages and cultures where the Friars find themselves. In fact, a whole repertoire of Gregorian melodies proper to the Order continues to be sung today: canticles to Our Lady and to Saint Dominic, hymns, and more."

TOTUS TUUS
Totus Tuus (Totally Yours) was a phrase used by Pope Jean-Paul to describe his absolute devotion to the Virgin Mary. Totus Tuus, a hymn to the Virgin Mary, was composed in 1987 by Henryk Gorecki in honor of Pope John Paul II's third visit to his homeland of Poland. The choral text is taken from a poem written by Maria Boguslawska. The music is based on chants of the Polish Catholic Church and reflects Gorecki's deep love for the Holy Father; and for his country and its musical traditions. Included on Totus Tuus is Wojciech Kilar's "Agnus Die." This is the only recording of this piece currently available.
