LOLITA
Vladimir Nabokov's tragicomedy masterpiece Lolita endures as one of literature's greatest depictions of American contemporary culture, and the subject of one of cultural history's longest moral controversies. Adrian Lynes Lolita is un grande, grandissimo film, says master composer Ennio Morricone. My music follows the films vicissitudes. Its sensual, romantic- with moderation and measure, lots of measure-dramatic with some humorous moments, never forgetting the experiences of the characters. Perhaps the scores most haunting music is its primary love theme: an underlying tightrope both romanic and hauntingly disturbing, its sparse piano strikes jarring the uneasy conscience of the illicit lovers on the run. --Vicki Arkoff, Film Committee Chariperson, National Association of Recording Arts & Sciences.
