Los Angeles, CA - - August 20th, 2002 - - DICK FANS REJOICE! ANDY DICK, comedic genius extraordinaire and star of MTV's THE ANDY DICK SHOW, is gearing up for an August 20th release of his debut record, ANDY DICK & THE BITCHES OF THE CENTURY. This 10 song, avant-garde, tour-de-force is a mixture of rock, cabaret, techno, punk rock and pure insanity.
From the hilarious, hummable opener "Love Ninja [Stalker Song]" to the infectious, groovable, "Little Brown Ring," ANDY DICK and his BITCHES promise a record chock full of surprises. But don't let the titles of the songs fool you. This is first and foremost, a rock record with traces of comedic elements. "This album is a long time coming," states ANDY. "A number of these tracks stem from my past, songs I developed when I was doing my cabaret act. Of course, over the years, they've morphed into entirely new entities. For example, the track 'Look At Me' has been evolving since I was 18. There's a lot of reference toward my mother in that song…"
On his debut, ANDY reaches deep within his psyche, to display a more intimate side. The songs featured on the album segue between personal and gimmicky. "There are novelty songs as well as personal ones on the album. But the thing is, what you think might be novelty could be personal and vice versa," says Andy. "People think the song 'Little Brown Ring' is a goofy novelty song about nothing, when in fact, it's very personal, something I hold dear to my heart…buttholes."
For his highly anticipated debut record, ANDY pulls out all the stops, enlisting the mixing talent of ERIC VALENTINE (THIRD EYE BLIND and SMASH MOUTH among others) and the production savvy of KEVIN AUGUNAS (who double duties on bass, and best known for his work with SINEAD O'CONNOR and EDNASWAP).
"These guys are so talented and pro, it's unbelievable," asserts ANDY. "I love how 'Little Brown Ring' can be so cabaret & sultry or F#@kin' tricked out and clubbed up with the dance remix we've included on the record." He also adds, "I honestly picture people a year from now gyrating and bumpin' to the dance remix of 'LBR' without even knowing what the content of the song is about, just cause the beat is so infectious. Are people gonna know they're dancing to a song about buttholes?"
ANDY also admits, "[This record is] Not gonna be for everybody and that's fine with me. I try to create art and I know that sounds pretentious but I 'm an advocate for new, forward thinking ideas."
Fellow artist and pal, MARILYN MANSON created the artwork for this album, a dramatic, intense water-color portrait of ANDY holding a joint - out of reach.
Meanwhile, the singer, songwriter, comedian, director and self proclaimed control freak, -- who recently made an appearance on the ROSIE O'DONNELL show (Friday, May 18), and continuously visits the HOWARD STERN show -- will be completing a series of live warm-up dates around Los Angeles before embarking on a nation wide tour. And in true DICK fashion, you can expect raunch-filled, humor-packed performances with a few surprises.
Asked about the live shows, Andy responds, "When I'm on stage, I imagine myself sitting in the audience and asking, 'What do I wanna see?' I work off that and try to create something original and attention-grabbing where audiences freak - - and they usually do because they're expecting to see the TV 'ANDY DICK' and what they get is something completely different and mind-blowing."
Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Andy began performing his cabaret act at age 17. At 27, he achieved fame by being cast as bumbling reporter Mathew Brock on the hit series "News Radio." But it wasn't until MTV's "The Andy Dick show" in 1999 that propelled Andy into worldwide notoriety, showcasing the talents and creative genius that is A. DICK.
Always personable, ANDY DICK is available for interviews.
