Flags of Our Fathers tells the life stories of the six men who raised the American flag at the Battle of Iwo Jima, a turning point in WWII. The film is based on the bestselling book of the same name, written by James Bradley and Ron Powers, which chronicled the battle of Iwo Jima and the fates of the flag raisers and some of their brothers in Easy Company.
Clint Eastwood is releasing a pair of WWII movies: Flags of Our Fathers and then Red Sun, Black Sand (aka Letters From Iwo Jima in Japan).The latter is an alternate view of the story though Japan's eyes, and revolves around Japanese General Tadamichi Kuribayashi (played by Ken Watanabe), who battled American troops for 40 days on the small island of Iwo Jima.
The soundtrack to Flags of Our Fathers features an original score by Clint Eastwood, nostalgic standards by Irving Berlin, Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne and John Philip Sousa, as well as original recordings by Dinah Shore and Artie Shaw and His Gramercy Five.
